Give Joy

December 05, 2018

The Angel Tree program is a Salvation Army Christmas Assistance program for families needing help providing gifts and basic needs to their children at Christmas. Families are registered in October, and children and seniors are placed for adoption on the Angel Tree in November.

The Sustained Quality Group supports the program and the Brentwood, TN office adopted a family. The Angel Tree packet was hand delivered and the Angel’s ages ranged from five months to seven years of age. The needs and wants of the children put life in perspective.

It is not too late. The next time you pass an Angel Tree, stop and read some of the Angel’s needs and wants. In general, it will not take much to put a smile on one Angel’s face for Christmas. Internet search “Salvation Army Angel Tree near me” or go to your local grocery.

There are opportunities not only to adopt from an Angel Tree, but to register your family for an Angel Tree, donate money in lieu of shopping for gifts or volunteer your time with the Angel Tree program.

Speaking of volunteering for the program, some years back I drove Angel Tree gifts to the Nashville, TN warehouse donation drop-off location. It was profoundly moving. I knew others that had been to the warehouse and they stated with no additional details, “You should go.” It was miles further than one of the many drop-off locations near me, but, I took their word for it.

A large warehouse with more volunteers than I could count was filled with perfectly lined rows of donations. Thousand and thousands of donation bags. I stopped and stood still. A volunteer must of recognized that first timer look. She put a hand on my back and said, “First time here?” Not able to say a word, I nodded and she said, “Enjoy.”

Give and experience the joy. Support your local Salvation Army Angel Tree program.
